The Stories We Share

“Get people to see themselves in the Story We share.” is a quote from a Platon talk a friend of mine shared. for those that do not know, Platon is a world-renowned portrait photographer who i have enjoyed following for years. He has captured everyone from world leaders, to locals in the small town in greece where he was born.

What I love about this quote is I believe it goes to the core of humanity, and frankly how I believe we should be living our lives. what I find so inspiring is when I think about all the leaders, artists, friends both personally and/or professionally, they all seem to get people to see themselves in their stories. We are still tribal in nature, and that desire to connect and be seen is so real. When I was thinking about this post, I was going through a lot of people I know, artists i follow, trying to find some common core trait, or skill that gets people to see themselves in those stories, and keep landing on vulnerability and humility.

When you watch a video of platon taking portraits, he is in it man. he’s connecting, engaged, and close. his passion for his craft, i believe, is linked directly to his passion for people. He wants to tell their story, and has a way to connect and capture moments that allow us to see ourselves in their stories. What I find so remarkable, is not only is he able to capture the story they want to tell, but their story through his vision at the same time. What does this all mean you may be wondering? Maybe it’s just the lesson to “Be somebody who makes people feel like Somebody, regardless of who that somebody is.”
